Boomers Need to Protect Themselves from Coronavirus

There are more than 69 million people over the age of 60 in the USA.

If you have been paying attention, you know anyone over the age of 60 begins to lose their ability to fight off infections due the immune system not being what it was when we (I'm in this category) were younger.

See this article/opinion piece, Hello, Boomer? It's Millennials. We need to talk about coronavirus.

What are the Holdemans doing? We are hermitting here at Casa Holdeman. To clarify, we are not in self-quarantine, since we do not know we have been exposed to the virus. We are not in isolation, because we are not sick. My wife has an "underlying condition" of diabetes so her last outing was yesterday when we went grocery shopping to stock up on what we needed. The pantry is full!

I will be the designated "gopher" to get what is needed outside the home, (donuts at Happy Donuts in Puyallup?). I've selected about 10 movies on Netflix I want to watch and — Game of Thrones had never been viewed, so there is that to look forward to.

My other activity will be here at the computer and on the keyboard, reading and blogging. Today I'm going to start imagining the medical future. More on that in a future blog post.

So boomers, hunker down and enjoythe cloistered life. I will remind all you millennials that even boomers can have sex. What else is there to do, and there are no kids around either!

Eric Holdeman is a contributing writer for Emergency Management magazine and is the former director of the King County, Wash., Office of Emergency Management.
