Disaster Zone Podcast: Women in Emergency Management

One view from a woman holding a senior position in emergency management.

Curry Mayer is the director of the Seattle Office of Emergency Management. She has had a long career spanning two states and multiple positions in each. I think you will find this Disaster Zonepodcast, “Women in Emergency Management,” of interest.

Here is the podcast’s description:

“There are more and more women entering the profession of emergency management or thinking about a career in this field. This podcast is an interview with Curry Mayer, Director, City of Seattle’s Office of Emergency Management. Curry has worked in both California and in Washington State as an emergency manager and also worked as a consultant. In this interview we talk about the opportunities and challenges that come with the profession and also how women can make a difference working in this field of endeavor. There are more and more opportunities for women to excel in the field of emergency management as shown by Deanne Criswell being the first Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator.”
Eric Holdeman is a nationally known emergency manager. He has worked in emergency management at the federal, state and local government levels. Today he serves as the Director, Center for Regional Disaster Resilience (CRDR), which is part of the Pacific Northwest Economic Region (PNWER). The focus for his work there is engaging the public and private sectors to work collaboratively on issues of common interest, regionally and cross jurisdictionally.
