Congrats to Vernon who started his emergency management career with the King County Office of Emergency Management. He was looking at perhaps becoming a Seattle firefighter, but I told him the variety of working in emergency management would be a better fit, long term.
He is one of two African-Americans who I was able to recruit into emergency management. The other, Ken Hudson, is still working (I think) for FEMA Region 8 in Colorado.
Who have been your diversity hires? We need to be better at making our ranks reflect our community's cultural make-up.
