OPM Director Resigns Over Cyber Fiasco

Ideally you always terminate an employee on a Friday. And another maxim in the public relations world is to announce bad information on a Friday. Overall, I think the resignation of the Office of Personnel Management director is good news.

To sum it up in one sentence, "A political hack could not hack it by preventing hackers from having access to 21 million personnel files."

Let this be a lesson to all political leaders who can make appointments of personnel to senior positions: Leadership matters. There are no longer safe positions where you can stick people as a reward for their loyalty and political service. Usually the damage is not so public as this turned out to be.
