Quote: On Appearing Weak

Not having an answer doesn't make you weak.

“The greatest weakness of all is the great fear of appearing weak.”  Jacques-Benigne Bossuet  The world has changed and continues to change rapidly.  There is so much information available today in a wide range of topics that it is no longer possible for one person to remain totally informed and up to speed on every topic.

Yet, many people continue to feel driven to provide information when they don’t know the facts.  I think the primary reason for this is that they don’t want to be seen as not knowing a subject, topic or facts.  Not having all the answers is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of being human.

The best time to acknowledge you don’t have an answer is when being interviewed by the media.  Never try to fake it.  Just say, “I don’t know the answer to that question, but I’ll get right back to you with an answer after I research the topic.”

It takes a strong person to admit that they don’t know something.  Choose to be strong versus being weak.
