Quote: On How I Want to be Remembered

“Obviously everyone wants to be successful, but I want to be looked back on as being very innovative, very trusted and ethical, and ultimately making a big difference in the world.”  Sergey Brin  When I read this quote it resonated with me.  A nice summary of how I want to be remembered for the manner in which I lived my professional life and what I contributed to society and my profession. 

 

I’d have to add that there is a balance required of the professional emergency manager.  Besides the work, relationships, plans, procedures and exercises you have a family, and that family may include a spouse and children, or not.  Either way, you need to pay attention to your home life. 

 

Yesterday was Father’s Day.  Fortunately for my children they had a wonderful mother present in their young lives when I was at work being “innovative, trusted and ethical.”  There will be other jobs and opportunities to contribute to the workplace, but the family only has you to depend on and communicate with and to do that you have to be present in their lives.  Doing the above remains a struggle for me, but it is a worthwhile one to attempt.
