The End of Facial Recognition -- for Now

Facial recognition is not going away for the long term.

Law and justice issues are causing major whiplash with tech companies promotion of their facial recognition software solutions, see Microsoft Joins Rising Chorus Against Facial Recognition.

Moving forward, longer-term, I see this as a substantive pause until the federal legal landscape gets sorted out. I'm also thinking that the use of facial recognition technology will likely be off-limits for the immediate future for many, if not all, law enforcement purposes with the general public.

Facial recognition has some great applications, and is used for air travel already in some instances. I rarely fly internationally, but in May of last year, it was part of our final boarding process for a flight to Europe.

The technology also needs to get better as noted in the linked article above.
