Unpaid Internship--Western Washington

Perhaps the word "Unpaid" will make some immediately turn away from an opportunity, but today it might be one of the few paths to getting into emergency management.

The City of Issaquah, located in the greater Seattle Metropolitan region is looking for an unpaid intern in the field of emergency management.  The particular position has a focus on neighborhood preparedness--but what I really like is how they are allowing some flexibility for someone to work on something of interest to them.

In better employment days many would turn up their nose at working as an unpaid intern.  However, if you don't have experience and a track record of success in the field of emergency management this might be one entry point into the field.

If you don't live in the immediate area today, perhaps you know someone who does.  An aunt, friend, etc. where you could sleep on the couch for a few months and get some valuable experience.

There are not that many job openings out there for someone trying to break into the field so you may need to be a bit creative in how you beef up your resume for that paid position somewhere down the line.
