Washington State Cascadia Rising 2022 Exercise Prep

Getting ready for the really big one!

The West Coast of the United States has its own subduction zone earthquake fault that we worry about. Called Cascadia, it runs from British Columbia in Canada down to Northern California. This is the fault system that can generate a magnitude 9 earthquake and large tsunami waves.

A National Level Exercise (NLE) is being planned for June 2022 using Cascadia as the scenario. As part of the preparations for the exercise and an actual event, Washington State Emergency Management is hosting two days of seminars. Details are described below.

“Washington Emergency Management Division is excited to invite you to participate in the Fall 2021 Cascadia Subduction Zone Discussion(CSZ) Series. Over two days, September 29th & 30th, we will be virtually hosting a total of 7 sessions looking at the CSZ with topics including understanding the hazard, preparedness resources, catastrophic emergency response planning, and two-panel conversation with a great lineup of panelists. These sessions are open to anyone interested in learning more about CSZ with a Washington State lens. Please share with your network, benefit of being virtual, we can welcome many participants.

Register at Cascadia Rising Seminars.”
