Tim Sylvester is a man with a big idea. As founder of the Kansas City, Mo.-based company Integrated Roadways, Tim started off with the notion of building freeways using pre-cast sections of pavement. But Tim soon realized that while building Lego-like freeway pieces was great, it could be even better if he built sensing and communication technology into the road before it was assembled on site.

Now, Tim is working to get the state of Missouri to embark on a pilot project to transform a portion of Interstate 70 into the country's smartest highway. On this edition of FutureStructure Radio, Tim and FutureStructure editor Chad Vander Veen talk about the smart highway technology, intelligent transportation systems, public private partnerships and more.
