Now you’ll know for sure if that video from your home security camera of a group of rabbits jumping on your trampoline at night is real or not (spoiler alert: It’s not). Popular home security company Ring has introduced a new tool, Ring Verify, that will tell you if a video has been altered.
The company says to “think of it like the tamper-evident seal on a medicine bottle.” This seal will be applied to any Ring video whether downloaded or shared from cloud storage. Even the smallest adjustment like shortening the video will break that seal. To check if a Ring video has been altered in any way, all you have to do is upload it to the Ring Verify web page. It can only tell you if a video has been altered — it can’t tell you how.
