An innovative program has been launched at
California State University, Chico to provide discounted IT consulting to state agencies. The
Center for Information Technology Consulting was created to improve the operations of state agencies in order to better serve internal and external customers.
The center is housed within the College of Engineering, Computer Science and Technology at CSU Chico, which has established a standard agreement with the state of California.
A group of Ph.D.-qualified consultants work on projects, utilizing diverse skill sets and knowledge gathered in a research environment. The faculty consultants remain on the cutting edge of a wide range of IT tools and techniques.
According to CITC Director Dr. Melody Callan, one of the major benefits of state agencies working with a public institution is the benefit to taxpayers. Funds are maximized, by keeping them within another state institution. CITC also prepares IT students for employment within state agencies, thereby helping to address the IT staffing shortfall within the state.
