Electronic Access to Case Information in Florida

Party Access in Manatee County allows anyone who is a party to a civil or family law case the ability to track their case progress and view images of court documents online

R.B. "Chips" Shore, the Manatee County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller, has recently developed a service called "Party Access." Party Access allows anyone who is a party to a civil or family law case the ability to track their case progress and view images of court documents online. Party Access was developed by Shore in response to a Florida Supreme Court moratorium banning public Internet access to court images, but allowing access to cases by parties and their attorneys.

In order for a party to be able to electronically access their case information, they must go to www.ManateeClerk.com and download the Affidavit in Support of Request for Electronic Party Access. Once this affidavit is signed, notarized and submitted to the Clerk, the party will be sent an email from the Clerk confirming their eight digit identification code that, along with their case number, will be used to access their online information at www.ManateeClerk.com.

"This is one of those ideas that is so wonderful but it is so simple. Parties can only see information associated with their case yet it allows them the freedom of accessing that information when it's most convenient for them-any time of the day or night," says Shore, "While our goal remains to provide public access to all public records as outlined in the Florida Constitution, we feel Party Access is a good interim measure for providing people information they have a constitutional right to view."
