"This agreement was a necessary and important step in the continued transition to the private sector of the technical functions relating to the management of the domain name and addressing system," said ITAA President and CEO Phil Bond. "We are pleased to see a call for a stronger focus on transparency and accountability mechanisms. In our view, enhancements in these areas are necessary for ICANN to continue its progress toward independence."
ITAA participated in the early discussions about private sector management of the domain name system that led to the creation of ICANN, and was a primary drafter of the framework for establishing one of the initial Supporting Organizations, now known as the Generic Name Supporting Organization. Currently, ITAA is an active participant in ICANN through the World Information Technology and Services Alliance and through ITAA's Global Public Policy Committee.
