As one of the 24- E-Government initiatives, an eAuthentication Gateway is a key component in the government's program to improve efficiency and effectiveness through the use of improved technology. The goals of the E-Government initiatives are to eliminate redundant systems and significantly improve the government's quality of service for citizens and businesses. The future operational eAuthentication Gateway is envisioned as a service that will be provided to and through the FirstGov.gov portal. It will provide authentication services to the other E-Government initiatives, allowing citizens, government entities, and their employees, businesses, and other institutions to conduct authenticated interactions. It will also leverage and interoperate with existing credential management infrastructures, including components and services. The government is currently engaged in a prototype development effort that will focus on demonstrating feasibility, exploring technical agency and application interface issues, identifying various information policy issues, and developing a set of requirements to be used as part of a full and open competitive solicitation, planned for September 2002. The eAuthentication Technical Information Exchange Day is on Friday, June 7, 2002, from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. at Mitretek Systems Inc, 3150 Fairview Park Drive South Falls Church, VA 22040-4519. Industry/government/academia are encouraged to participate in this exchange. Please RSVP by Wednesday, June 5, 2002, by sending an e-mail notice to eauthentication@mitretek.org containing name and citizenship. Registration with Mitretek security and Picture ID are required upon arrival. We welcome written technical comments and questions in advance and following the meeting.
