New Mexico Governor Makes Case for Hosting New Air Force Cyberspace Command

"With several military bases, national science labs and major research universities, we believe that New Mexico is best equipped to host a new Air Force Cyberspace Command."

Governor Bill Richardson met with Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, Installations, Environment and Logistics, Bill Anderson to make the case for New Mexico to become the new location for the US Air Force Cyberspace Command.

"With several military bases, national science labs and major research universities, we believe that New Mexico is best equipped to host a new Air Force Cyberspace Command, while offering the Air Forces' most talented computer scientists a home with a high quality of life for their families," said Governor Richardson. "We had a good talk, and I made it clear that the State of New Mexico is committed to doing what it takes to win that bid and earning the new command."

Assistant Secretary Anderson outlined the Air Force's new efforts to move toward clean energy, including moving aviation fuel to a synfuel blend and electricity generation on Air Force bases utilizing clean energy technology, such as large "farms" of solar energy panels. Governor Richardson expressed his willingness to work with the Air Force to find clean energy solutions for providing energy to support military installations.

"The Air Force recognizes the need to fight climate change and America's dependence on foreign oil," said Governor Richardson. "The State of New Mexico stands ready to work with the Air Force to encourage clean energy solutions to their transportation and operational and support needs."
