U.K. Government Consumer Advice Web Site Allows Customers to File Complaints Securely

The system's support for .NET and Web services standards makes it easily customizable for integration into existing environments.

The UK Department of Trade & Industry recently launched the Consumer Direct Web site to provide consumers impartial advice about various goods and services and to help consumers sort out problems and disagreements they may be having with suppliers of those goods and services. A key part of the online service is the ability for consumers to post complaints about businesses or products on the Web site and have that information securely directed to the appropriate department or agency.

To implement this functionality into the Web site, Detica, the company managing the implementation of the Consumer Direct Web site for the UK Department of Trade and Industry turned to CertifiedMail.

CertifiedMail maintains a common code base across all applications in its Secure Messaging System. In addition, the system's compliance with Microsoft's .NET and Web services standards makes it easily customizable for integration into existing environments.

CertifiedMail's implementation for Consumer Direct includes a secure forms interface available in multiple languages, XML transformation and delivery of secure forms data into Consumer Direct's backend constituent relationship management system as well as a Web Services API for full programmatic control over all CertifiedMail messaging functionality and multilevel administration with global and group administrator delegation.

"We were able to offer the DTI a secure, flexible environment, which tightly integrated with what they already had rather than rebuilding their infrastructure from scratch," says CertifiedMail CTO Bob Janacek. "They were able to maintain their existing workflow and processes, which minimized the amount of staff training required to use the Secure Post Office."
