VITA, VSP Recognized by Computerworld Honors Program

Two award-winning case studies

The Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) and the Virginia State Police (VSP) have been recognized by the Computerworld Honors Program for two outstanding programs.

VITA was recognized for its case study, Virginia's Transformation: Statewide IT Consolidation Strategy, and VSP won for its case study, TIPS-- Tactical Intelligence Processing System. VITA assisted VSP with the TIPS initiative.

Computerworld Honors identifies and recognizes organizations around the world that use information technology to produce and promote positive change and vision. Case studies are archived in 36 countries as leading examples of how IT is used in government and nonprofit organizations to benefit society.

These two submissions became an official part of the Computerworld Honors Collection on Sunday, April 4. The 2004 Collection was formally presented to the Global Archives and Medals of Achievement were given at San Francisco City Hall.

VITA's medal was presented by IT Investment Board (ITIB) Chairman and state Secretary of Technology George Newstrom and Deputy Secretary of Technology Eugene Huang on April 7 at the quarterly ITIB meeting to state CIO Lem Stewart and Deputy CIO Cheryl Clark. The board and CIOs commended VITA employees for their hard work that made these awards possible.
