More than 200 Fortinet systems are securing the Calgary libraries and regional Alberta library systems as well as providing a connection point to the Alberta SuperNet, a high-capacity network that connects Alberta's schools, hospitals, libraries and government offices.
Fortinet's FortiGate-200A enterprise security appliances secure the connection point for the regional Alberta library systems' headquarters and the Alberta SuperNet. FortiGate-60 small/medium business (SMB) security appliances are being deployed at individual libraries within each system and leverage internal network segmentation capabilities to separate patrons' and staff's network use. The FortiWiFi-60 systems, which are SMB security appliances with a wireless access point, are being deployed to provide future public wireless access in select locations across the province.
The FortiGate systems provide secure connectivity and communication, which allows the Marigold Library System, Northern Lights Library System, Peace Library System and Yellowhead Regional Library System to provide secure access to the Integrated Library System (ILS) for over 170 library branch locations in order to share books and other resources.
The Calgary Public Library is using 18 FortiGate multifunction security appliances to protect and connect its library-wide network. The library's 16 branches are being secured by FortiGate-100A enterprise security appliances and two FortiGate-800 large enterprise security appliances are being deployed in high availability mode at the main library in downtown Calgary to protect network data, provide secure Internet connectivity to each library, and as a connectivity device to the Alberta SuperNet.
"Large distributed library systems aren't unlike enterprises when it comes to network security -- they require flexible platforms and comprehensive, high-performance security for their network-wide information assets and increasing data bandwidth needs," said Graham Bushkes, country manager, Canada for Fortinet. "Fortinet's ASIC-accelerated FortiGate multifunction security appliances provide the seven Alberta library systems and the Calgary Public Library with comprehensive, cost-effective security solutions that allow the various libraries to protect their information and share it between each other and throughout the community."
