An after-action report from the Nevada Governor’s Technology Office says a spoofed website and search engine optimization poisoning led to the ransomware attack that shut down government offices in late August.

With Phase 1A of the CORE.NV project complete in January, Nevada has set the foundation for its enterprise resource planning update, its CIO Timothy Galluzi said, and enabled construction of better service delivery processes.

Alaska CIO Bill Smith said that while ransomware is a huge threat and priority for him and the other state CIOs at the NASCIO Midyear conference, the most important way to turn the tide is getting back to basic cyber hygiene.

During the time that Nevada CIO Timothy Galluzi has been serving in the CIO role, he has witnessed the value of collaboration and partnership in guiding state IT. Galluzi has been the state’s IT leader since 2022.
