Four startups, whose work spans the prison system, video analysis, climate work and courts, won recognition at the annual State of GovTech* event recently in Foster City, Calif.

The event, which included panels and conversations among many gov tech companies and public-sector leaders, included a pitch competition where 25 startups presented their work to their peers and investors. They included technology for communication among police officers (Multitude Insights), assessing risk factors associated with people re-entering the workforce from the corrections system (R3 Score Technologies) and network for smart infrastructure (Wi-Fiber), among others.

The four winners were:
  • Societal Systems: Portals and workflow tools to speed up the paperwork and administration of the probate process for conservatorships and guardianships
  • Terra.do: Classes and career advancement for climate-related work
  • Orijin: Education technology for use in prisons, including tablets and cloud-based learning and communication tools
  • Medex Forensics: Video analytics to determine the origin of footage, including metadata and AI to identify deepfakes and other manipulation
The four winners will be featured on the “In Case You Missed It” podcast. All participating startups will receive trials of DocuSign’s e-signature technology, according to a blog post about the event.
