The website was designed to make it easier for landlords to list their properties and residents to find available homes in Portage, a news release from the city states.
The new platform, now live at apartments.portagemi.gov, provides a centralized, city-supported location for verified rental listings.
Unlike national rental websites, the tool was built with Portage’s local housing market in mind.
It gives landlords, especially those managing fewer than 20 units, a free, simple and trusted way to advertise available properties directly to renters searching for housing in the community, the release states.
“Landlords are essential partners in meeting Portage’s housing needs,” said Portage Chief Development Officer Pete Dame. “This service will help renters identify their options when looking for a place to live in Portage.”
Features include:
- Free listings for landlords with fewer than 20 units.
- Quick setup with guided onboarding support.
- Custom onboarding and support available for larger property managers.
- Verified listings ensure transparency and trust for renters and property owners alike.
Portage is City Wise’s first Michigan partner, joining more than a dozen municipalities across Wisconsin and Minnesota.
“We believe every renter deserves a clear, accessible way to find housing,” said City Wise COO Jeremy Schmidt. “This platform helps remove some of the barriers renters face, especially in tight or confusing markets, by creating a straightforward path to available homes.”
