FON, the world's largest Wi-Fi community, this week introduced La Fontenna. La Fontenna is an easy-to-use directional antenna that significantly expands the range of FON's La Fonera Wi-Fi router. La Fontenna allows FON community members (Foneros) to share their Wi-Fi signal over longer distances, creating more coverage for everyone. La Fontenna connects to the La Fonera, FON's Wi-Fi router, and allows Foneros to expand their Wi-Fi signal by up 3 to 5 times (depending on line of sight)."Cities all over the U.S. are struggling with costly and complicated municipal Wi-Fi initiatives," said Joanna Rees, U.S. CEO of FON. "With the release of the La Fontenna, we feel that we are introducing a more organic, more community-oriented solution to struggling municipal Wi-Fi efforts that is created by the residents themselves."
The number of new Foneros joining the FON Community grows daily by the hundreds. There are now 400,000 registered Community members worldwide. FON now plans to grow its Community even more by offering its members greater Wi-Fi coverage through the La Fontenna.
Think Global, Wi-Fi LocalAs part of FON's ongoing efforts to provide pervasive, reliable Wi-Fi services around the globe, FON recently announced an initiative to bring Wi-Fi to Chueca. Chueca is Spain's largest gay neighbourhood and the hub for Europride 2007, celebrated this year in Madrid.
FON has offered free La Fonera routers and accompanying La Fontennas to residents of Chueca. As approximately 2.5 million people pass through Chueca from June 22 through July 1, they will have pervasive Internet access.
La Fontenna is available immediately, along with the La Fonera router, at http://www.fon.com/en/. Pricing for La Fontenna is â?¬/$19.95 for new Foneros.
