Coding Dojo, a Washington-based ed-tech company that offers several computer programming bootcamp classes, is partnering with the City University of Seattle to provide bootcamp graduates with guaranteed admission to a more formal degree program — bachelor’s or master’s — in applied computer science, according to a news release Wednesday.

While the Coding Dojo website is littered with testimonials from graduates who transitioned immediately to a career opportunity, this partnership aims to cater to the graduates of its software development, data science and cybersecurity programs who still want to attain a degree from a university. The release said that students are not required to have a background in STEM in order to be accepted into the university’s master's program, but those who already have a STEM-related bachelor's degree can complete it in as few as five courses, which are available as online, in-person or hybrid.

Coding Dojo graduates can waive up to three courses in the computer science (CS) programs at the university once enrolled, the release said. Additionally, the company said graduates can challenge up to a quarter of their City University of Seattle degree and can use belt projects from Coding Dojo for multiple course challenges to receive full credit for up to five courses that would go toward their CS degree.

The company said in the release that graduating from its program prior to the pursuit of a bachelor’s or master’s degree will save the students time and money.

"Many of our students pursue lucrative careers in the tech industry after graduation, but some do choose to continue their education instead," Coding Dojo CEO Richard Wang said in a public statement. "This partnership with CityU will allow us to offer even more pathways to success for our students."

Outside of the university opportunity, Coding Dojo graduates have lifetime access to the company’s career services, which includes personalized coaching, resume and portfolio preparation, mock interviews and workshops, all aimed at helping graduates of the program get their careers off the ground, the release said. The partnership isn’t the first for Coding Dojo. The company in August partnered with The Prison Scholar Fund to train previously incarcerated people. It also partnered with the Chilean government for a workforce development initiative as well as with Microsoft as a Microsoft Azure training partner.
