The Australian and New Zealand Disaster and Emergency Management Conference will provide a forum to examine the issues surrounding natural and man-made hazards.
The 2012 conference will be held in Brisbane from 16 - 18 April next year at the Brisbane Convention Centre. The program format will consist of keynote addresses, concurrent sessions and workshops. There will be more than 50 presentations.
It is a joint initiative of the Australian Institute of Emergency Services (Queensland Division) the Australian and New Zealand Mental Health Association Inc and the Association for Sustainability in Business Inc.
Each association is a Non-Government, Not for Profit, Member Based organisation.
The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) released a National Strategy for Disaster Resilience in February 2011. It agreed to adopt "a whole-of-nation resilience-based approach to disaster management, which recognises that a national, coordinated and cooperative effort is needed to enhance Australia's capacity to withstand and recover from emergencies and disasters".
