Everybody Should Wear a Mask -- But There Are No Masks Available!

How to create more anxiety: Tell people to do something for which there are no resources.

I can understand the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) changing their guidelines for the use of personal protective equipment. You learn new things and you adapt to the circumstances that you are faced with. That is good policy.

What is totally irrational is this: The Trump administration is expected to urge all Americans to wear cloth masks in public, based on a forthcoming shift in CDC guidance.

This decision by the CDC to recommend people to wear masks or facial coverings (what signs will banks display?) when there are no medical masks available -- it absolutely crazy! All it will do is two things:

  1. Take masks out of the inventory that would be better used by medical professionals and first responders.
  2. Create a ton of anxiety in people because they don't have a mask and now it is being recommended.
It is a mental health catastrophe!

OK, upon some mental review ... I'm just glad they didn't say everyone should have 50 rolls of toilet paper at home. The alternative is to use newspaper. That's right, most households don't take a paper newspaper anymore. I guess in our home the alternative would be Frontgate catalogs in the bathroom -- and not for reading.
