Life Expectancy Drops Again in the U.S.

Thank you COVID-19!

Smoking, drinking, suicide, gun violence, diabetes and heart disease are all factors contributing to what people die from. However, there is no denying that the life expectancy of Americans has decreased three years (79 to 76) in the last two years. This is largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic and exacerbated by people’s reluctance to protect themselves from the disease. Yes, there are other factors like the fact that we have a “for profit” medical system here in this country.

This quote comes from a New York Times article on the above which illustrates where we are today as we get ready to roll out a new and improved booster shot for COVID-19: “Over a million Americans have died of Covid-19, and more died in 2021 than in 2020 despite the availability of vaccines. To date, only two-thirds of Americans are fully vaccinated [meaning two shots], and only one-third have had a booster shot.

The bold is my emphasis. If you don’t want the vaccination, then be prepared to suffer the consequences. In this case I think the phrase “Give me liberty or give me death” might just be appropriate. In fact, you could have both, liberty not to get vaccinated and death. It’s a win win for you!
