311 App Connects Morgantown, W.Va., Residents to City Services

The newly released app allows users to submit requests in a wide range of categories, including abandoned vehicles, anonymous criminal reports, public records requests, broken streetlights and other services.

(TNS) — The city of Morgantown has a new mobile app that will empower its citizens to help raise the alarm on potential issues within the city.

Morgantown 311, available for download free on both the App Store and Google Play Store, went live earlier this month.

"The app basically streamlines the process of citizen request, submission and fulfillment, " Morgantown Communication Specialist Hollie Gregory explained. "Essentially the app allows citizens to submit community-related concerns to city officials alongside really important details such as location, photos and much more."

The app allows users to submit requests in a wide range of categories, including abandoned vehicles, anonymous criminal reports, public records requests, tree-trimming, broken streetlights and dozens of others.

"When a request is submitted, it is pushed through to a corresponding city official, " Gregory said, providing an example of a request involving a broken streetlight.

"So this was pushed through to the Public Works Department because they are in charge of streets. So, Barb Morgan, who is one of our officials with the Public Works Department, received this request and she was able to, once she received the request, acknowledge it, comment on it and close the request once the work was completed."

The application also includes information about city parking, trash and recycling services, public parks and voting information, as well as links to the city's social media pages and the city hall directory.

The city is working with CivicPlus on the app, which uses the company's SeeClickFix request and work management software.

As of this writing, 12 issues have been addressed through the app since it went live on Nov. 14.
