An investigation showed a breach on Oct. 5, 2025, exposed names and personal information, including Social Security numbers, driver’s license information, state identification card numbers, financial information and credit or debit card numbers.
The breach also exposed usernames, emails and passwords, along with security questions and answers, according to a statement posted to the Upper Township website.
Township officials said they discovered suspicious activity on their networks on Dec. 8, 2025.
“We promptly responded and launched a comprehensive investigation to confirm the nature and scope of the incident,” township officials said in the statement.
The investigation, completed on April 13, showed that an unauthorized person gained access and may have acquired files with the personal information.
Officials said they are unaware of attempted or actual misuse of the information.
Township residents are being asked to review their account statements and monitor their free credit reports for unusual activity.
“If you notice any unauthorized or suspicious transactions, you should report them immediately to your bank or credit card company,” township officials said.
After learning of the breach, the township said it immediately shut down affected systems.
“We have taken steps to implement additional safeguards and review our policies, procedures and processes related to data storage to reduce the likelihood of a similar future event,” the township’s statement said.
