Pettit took the role in November 2025 after serving as Colorado’s chief technology officer. He has an array of public-sector experience. Before joining Colorado, he served as Oregon CIO from January 2014 to June 2018; he later served as the chief enterprise architect in the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office.
Oregon was not his first CIO stint; he was the first-ever CIO of Oklahoma, from 2010-2014. At the local level, he was chief technology officer for the city of Denton, Texas, for about a decade beginning in 1998. He also has private-sector experience with organizations including Marsh and Ernst & Young.
Pettit’s final day in the role was Wednesday, according to an email from Hope Hiebert, communications director for Oregon Enterprise Information Services. State officials have not yet named a replacement, and nobody is filling the role in the interim, she said. It is “yet to be determined” whether the state will mount a recruitment.
“Among other efforts, our team worked to strengthen enterprise infrastructure services, advance resilience planning, and begin shaping a platform-oriented approach to shared technology services,” Pettit said in a LinkedIn post announcing his departure.
