Alex Pettit, a veteran public-sector IT executive, has concluded his time as Oregon’s digital transformation projects director and is seeking new opportunities.

Pettit took the role in November 2025 after serving as Colorado’s chief technology officer. He has an array of public-sector experience. Before joining Colorado, he served as Oregon CIO from January 2014 to June 2018; he later served as the chief enterprise architect in the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office.

Oregon was not his first CIO stint; he was the first-ever CIO of Oklahoma, from 2010-2014. At the local level, he was chief technology officer for the city of Denton, Texas, for about a decade beginning in 1998. He also has private-sector experience with organizations including Marsh and Ernst & Young.

Pettit’s final day in the role was Wednesday, according to an email from Hope Hiebert, communications director for Oregon Enterprise Information Services. State officials have not yet named a replacement, and nobody is filling the role in the interim, she said. It is “yet to be determined” whether the state will mount a recruitment.

“Among other efforts, our team worked to strengthen enterprise infrastructure services, advance resilience planning, and begin shaping a platform-oriented approach to shared technology services,” Pettit said in a LinkedIn post announcing his departure.

He is now kicking off the search for his next role, he said, noting his interest in jobs involving enterprise architecture, infrastructure modernization, and government technology transformation.
