Lancaster County's chief administrator last week notified county department leaders of the change by email, saying that Rose Mustain's tenure had ended and the county's chief information security officer, Russ Hauser, would serve as IT director on an interim basis.
"We are very confident that there will be no disruption to the excellent service you are all accustomed to receiving," Chief Clerk Larry George said in the email.
Mustain could not be reached for comment.
Michael Fitzpatrick, spokesman for the county commissioners, did not respond to a request last week to confirm Mustain's departure from the county. Fitzpatrick also did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday, after LNP — LancasterOnline obtained George's email through a public records request.
As of Tuesday, Mustain's LinkedIn page did not list her stint as Lancaster County's top IT leader, showing her still as an employee at NASA with the title of space operations mission directorate cybersecurity and IT manager.
But six months ago, Mustain posted on LinkedIn that she was leaving Houston for Lancaster.
"Finding the courage to do a multi-state move again to a place where we know no one is my second leap of faith. Why am I scared and excited? I've done this before. I got this — right?" Mustain wrote.
With a yearly salary of $157,325, Mustain was the second-highest paid county official before her departure, behind only District Attorney Heather Adams, according to county compensation data. Adams' 2026 salary is $233,916.
Mustain remains a part-time cybersecurity and IT adjunct professor at Alvin Community College in Texas, according to her LinkedIn page.
