(TNS) — University of Massachusetts Lowell closed on Tuesday due to an IT outage caused by a possible cybersecurity incident. As a result, all in-person and remote classes and operations - including the Lowell and Haverhill campuses, were canceled.

Network access is unavailable and the university website, UML.edu, were down as of Tuesday afternoon. The university put up a temporary website to provide more information.

“Information Technology is investigating a possible cybersecurity incident affecting technology services at the University. UMass Lowell continues to retain control over its IT infrastructure and is working with a leading cyber forensics firm to identify, evaluate and eliminate any issues that are discovered,” the temporary website read. “Out of an abundance of caution, all network communications have been suspended by the university to and from the campus network while the scope of the incident is evaluated.”

According to the website, there is no timeframe for a full restoration of services. Additional information will be provided on the temporary website while the university’s main website is not functioning.

The UMass Lowell library also tweeted letting patrons know that since network is down, their databases are also. Books can be searched at the university’s catalogue.
