According to a news release, the new course will teach students the essentials of data comprehension through 16 data science lessons accompanied by two hands-on coding “creation sessions,” and blends guided learning with interactive games and review questions designed to reinforce comprehension of key course concepts.
The new course comes as K-12 schools across the country increase their emphasis on computer science and IT skill-building to meet employers’ growing demand for applicants with coding skills. It also joins a growing market of digital platforms and resources designed to teach K-12 students basics in coding and other related IT skills, such as Scirra’s Construct 3 software that teaches middle and high school students to create 2D and 2.5D mobile and online video games, among others.
Noting that data science skills have become “indispensable” in today’s world as industries digitize operations, the news release said the new course aims to prepare the next generation for a “data-centric future.”
