(TNS) — Clark County School District staff members were told on Thursday to reset their passwords after three employees’ accounts were hacked and fraudulent charges were made using their direct deposit information.

“CCSD is aware that three employees were victims of a personal information breach,” CCSD Chief Information Officer Mugunth Vaithylingam said in an emailed statement. “As a precautionary measure, we sent information to all employees to update their login credentials to ensure their personal information is protected.”

Vaithylingam said that the breach was not the result of system issues.

A separate email sent to staff said that the accounts of the three employees who were scammed were accessed using their login credentials. District officials also urged staff to enable multi-factor authentication to add an extra layer of protection for their accounts.

“Again, this is a very limited concern isolated to three CCSD employees. However, in each incident, employees did not have multi-factor authentication (MFA) enabled,” the email stated.

A CCSD spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for information on whether anyone had been arrested in connection with scams.
