As described on its website, IM’s curriculum centers on real-world problems that encourage students to draw upon background knowledge, test ideas and build conceptual understanding through group work and feedback. Several major districts across the U.S. use IM’s curriculum, including Los Angeles Unified School District and the New York City Department of Education.
According to the news release, Snorkl's technology supports teachers in tailoring instruction to individual learning needs by providing immediate insight into how students approach and reason through problems, and using AI to personalize feedback to students as they move through math problems and tasks. Snorkl's new integration brings its personalized feedback functions into IM's curriculum.
IM and Snorkl described their joint effort as one that preserves the teacher’s role while offering new data to guide next steps in student learning.
“At IM, we’re always looking for ways to make our curriculum even more dynamic and responsive,” IM CEO and co-founder Dr. Kristin Umland said in a public statement. “Snorkl’s technology aligns perfectly with our vision of students actively problem-solving and engaging with math, supported by teachers who can see and build on that thinking in real time.”
