This contribution will provide students with expanded access to industry-standard equipment, ensuring they are prepared for the high-demand careers of tomorrow, the school district said in a news release.
The funding is earmarked for high-impact STEM projects across the district’s high schools, focusing on the intersection of manual craftsmanship and digital intelligence, Superintendent Vickie Murillo said in the release.
The projects include the acquisition of an autonomous robot to enhance programming and engineering coursework, the installation of new welding booths with the latest technology for hands-on learning and the purchase of specialized Project Lead The Way engineering devices and information technology hardware designed for use across multiple interdisciplinary courses.
“Google is an outstanding partner in our goal to provide innovative and extraordinary opportunities for students in our schools,” Murillo said in the release. “Our students are fortunate to benefit from Google’s generosity and their commitment to prepare students for their future careers.”
Allyson Eastman, Google community and workforce senior manager, said in the release that Google is committed to ensuring students' access to technology.
“The Council Bluffs Community School District has been on the forefront of innovation, and Google is proud to help play a role," Eastman said.
This investment underscores Google’s ongoing commitment to the Council Bluffs community, where it operates one of its largest data center facilities. Google also awarded more than $1 million to Iowa nonprofits as part of its annual giving last year.
