Scribbles, PowerSchool Partner to Expedite College Applications

Students using PowerSchool Naviance to apply to colleges now have access to an additional 2,000 institutions under an integration with Scribbles Software that makes the process easier and faster.

A new integration between the school record-management company Scribbles Software and a college-application software tool will make it easier for high school students to share their academic records when applying to colleges.

The partnership allows high school students who use PowerSchool Naviance eDocs, a college application program, to send transcripts and other supporting documentation in the application process to more than 2,000 colleges and university admission offices that previously were not compatible with that tool. All told, this integration between the two companies covers more than 5,000 higher education institutions, according to a news release this week.

Scribbles specializes in K-12 online student-record management and administrative resources. In 2022, the software was used to complete almost 1 million electronic transcript requests, including those from more than 20 of the largest school districts in the nation, according to the news release.

Case studies on Scribbles’ website illustrate the heavy workload of digital transformation. Prince George’s County Public Schools in Maryland, for example, with 136,000 students in 208 schools, still had current student records stored on microfilm, microfiche and magnetic data tapes as recently as 2016, and those repositories have since been digitized and moved onto a cloud platform.

And just last year, Manatee County School District in Florida, with over 50,000 students, finished digitizing more than 3,000 boxes of student records that were stored in filing cabinets and fireproof vaults. To process record requests, a staff member had to drive to the storage location and then continue onto a different location where the paper documents could be faxed to the requesting party.

The partnership between PowerSchool and Scribbles was announced in April, and the integration took place over the course of the spring and summer months leading up to the October announcement that the process is complete in time for upcoming college and university application deadlines.

“When it comes to applying for college, the process of getting the right information to the right places shouldn’t be a barrier,” Amy Reitz, PowerSchool group vice president of product, said in a public statement. “The integration of Naviance eDocs with Scribbles is helping to remove that barrier to make applying for college more accessible for even more students.”
