South Madison Schools Win Grants for STEM, Digital Learning

More than $210,000 in grant funding from the Indiana Department of Education will help teachers support K-12 families with issues related to educational technology and blended-learning and virtual-learning environments.

Digital Learning
(TNS) — South Madison schools have secured three grants from the state of Indiana to bolster early literacy, STEM programs and digital learning.

The Indiana Department of Education grants, totaling more than $210,000, include the Science of Reading initiative and support for K-12 robotics programs.

According to a release from the school district, the Science of Reading grant will help facilitate ongoing data-driven professional development opportunities for teachers and identify students in kindergarten through third grade who might be struggling with reading. The grant will also allow for the purchase of supplemental materials, district officials said.

South Madison also was one of 168 districts to receive a K-12 Robotics Competition Grant for the 2023-24 academic year. Funding from that grant will support Pendleton Heights Middle School's newly formed Robotics Club.

The Digital Learning Parent and Family Support Grant, also facilitated by the IDOE, will enable educators to design a comprehensive plan to support parents and families with topics related to educational technology and blended-learning and virtual-learning environments.

"We are elated to receive these grants, which will enable us to further enhance our STEM education initiatives and provide invaluable support to our parents and families in navigating the digital-learning landscape," said Dr. Laura Miller, the district's assistant superintendent of elementary curriculum.

"These grants align seamlessly with our commitment to delivering high-quality education and fostering a collaborative learning environment for our students."
