Miles College is joining with a technology innovation company to expose up to 750 high school students in the Birmingham area to expanding artificial intelligence technology and workforce development opportunities.
“We are leveraging advanced AI tools not only to enhance academic achievement on our campus, but to build a high school-to-college workforce readiness pipeline,” said Miles President Bobbie Knight. “We are preparing students earlier, smarter, and more strategically for the demands of a global economy.”
The multi-year initiative pilot is led by Miles with tech support from StudyFetch and NVIDIA and a grant from UNCF.
The team earlier this week spent time at Parker High School in Birmingham to demonstrate the technology and how it could benefit students.
Miles is a private historically Black liberal arts college in Fairfield, just west of Birmingham.
StudyFetch is an AI-powered study platform that creates notes, quizzes, and a 24/7 AI tutor from course materials. The program is designed to tackle student success and retention.
Students will participate in a workforce preparedness experience developed by StudyFetch and delivered through its platform and with content from NVIDIA Academy and the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute.
“Access for All exemplifies what’s possible when educators and industry partners unite to expand opportunity and workforce readiness,” said Esan Durrani, CEO and co-founder of StudyFetch.
Parker High School was the first stop in a tour of schools.
The initiative was created to address concerns that many students, particularly those from underserved communities, graduate without exposure to industry-relevant skills and understanding of emerging career opportunities.
The collaboration is the latest in a series of efforts at Miles to bolster technology access and position the college as an innovation hub for students and entrepreneurs.
The college in 2024 founded the 2150 Center for Innovation, Commercialization & Growth. The 2150 Center is a business and innovation collaborative designed to expand to institutions around the country.
Other efforts include a collaboration with MentorPro, a mobile-first technology platform that connects students and early entrepreneurs with real-time, interest-aligned seasoned mentors.
