More Property Insurance Woes

There is an elegant solution that will likely never be employed.

Brenden McCluskey of the King County Office of Emergency Management forwarded this article to me from Governing*: “The Daunting Dilemma of Disaster Insurance.”

This is a great article on the topic that matches up well with the blog post I shared earlier this past week: “A Property Insurance Disaster Is Looming.”

Don Kettl is a respected disaster researcher and he calls out in his piece for mandatory risk assumption by property owners. Of course, everyone is into holding people accountable for their actions — until they are the ones who are being held accountable.

I still think the option that I lay out in my piece is more likely to happen than people paying for the risks they are taking with their property and financial wellbeing.
