(TNS) — Logansport, Ind., residents who drive electric vehicles will soon have more places to charge their cars in public.

Logansport Utilities announced in a press release on Wednesday that the utility company is installing new electric vehicle charging stations around the city to promote sustainability.

"This is a small way we, as a utility company, can support our community," Logansport Utilities Superintendent Greg Toth said in the release. "The availability of additional charging stations around town will benefit electric vehicle owners and encourage others to invest in them, especially during a time where everyone is looking for sustainable options and transportation cost-savings."

Logansport currently has electric vehicle charging stations in the city building's private parking lot and at Logansport Memorial Hospital. The charging station at LMH requires drivers to pay for electricity each time they use it.

Logansport Utilities will pay for the electricity costs of the new charging stations so they are free to the public. The first new electric vehicle charging station will open in Science Project Brewing Company's parking lot on July 5.

Locations for the other electric charging stations have not yet been determined, but the press release said Logansport Utilities is looking at adding another charging station to the city's Urban Park project at the corner of Fourth Street and Market Street.
