(TNS) — The city said Monday afternoon that it will implement contingency plans and make sure employees will continue to receive their pay following a ransomware attack on the timekeeping company it uses: Ultimate Kronos Group and its Kronos Private Cloud.

The city was made aware of the hack Saturday after Kronos noticed unusual activity on its servers.

Ultimate Kronos Group also said Monday in a message to its customers that Kronos Private Cloud is currently unavailable and it may take as long as several weeks to restore system availability.

“We are working with leading cybersecurity experts to assess and resolve the situation, and have notified the authorities,” write Kronos executive vice president Bob Hughes in a statement posted on the company’s website. ”The investigation remains ongoing, as we work to determine the nature and scope of the incident.”

Impacted are UKG Workforce Central, UKG TeleStaff, Healthcare Extensions, and Banking Scheduling Solutions.

“At this time, we are not aware of an impact to UKG Pro, UKG Ready, UKG Dimensions, or any other UKG products or solutions, which are housed in separate environments and not in the Kronos Private Cloud,” Hughes wrote.

The city said it is taking all appropriate actions necessary to mitigate the impact of this incident. Those impacts could include potential disruptions with the recording of city employee schedules and hours for payroll purposes, which are usually kept and recorded in Kronos.

“The City of Springfield would like to reassure all city employees that contingency plans for recording employee schedules and hours will be implemented to mitigate the potential adverse effects this incident might cause and to make sure that employees will continue to receive their regular scheduled pay,” the news release reads. “Any potential discrepancies found and encountered will be reviewed and addressed accordingly.”
