Alabama Office of Information Technology (OIT) Secretary Marty Redden has announced his retirement after more than 15 years in state service.

Redden was officially appointed to the role in November 2019 after serving as the acting CIO since July 2019, when then-acting CIO Jim Purcell stepped down.

Redden, who has three decades of public and private IT experience, has been in Alabama state government for 16 years, having held managerial positions in the Department of Corrections, the Alabama Medicaid Agency and the state Finance Department.

“My goal from day one was to leave the agency in better condition than when I arrived, and I’m proud to have positioned the Office of Information Technology to continue to meet the technology challenges of the future,” Redden said in the announcement.

Gov. Kay Ivey has tapped OIT Deputy Secretary Daniel Urquhart to step into the position.

Urquhart has been with the state of Alabama for more than two decades, 18 years of which were with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency in various management roles. His appointment will be effective July 1, 2023.

“The state of Alabama is fortunate to have someone as uniquely qualified as Daniel Urquhart step up to lead OIT,” said Ivey in the announcement.
