Last week, Idaho Gov. Brad Little announced the appointment of Alberto Gonzalez as the new administrator for the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS).

Kristin Bartz, the communication manager for ITS, told Government Technology via email that Gonzalez’s official start date was Oct. 3.

The administrator role was previously held by Jeff Weak, who left the position last week for a role in the private sector. Bartz noted that CISO Keith Tresh also left at the same time as Weak, citing retirement as the reason. That position has not yet been filled.

Former state CIO Greg Zickau, meanwhile, will carry on as the deputy administrator and CFO.

Gonzalez brings to the position almost 30 years of experience in private- and public-sector management. Among his public-sector experience, he has served the state for 15 years in various roles and agencies, including the Department of Health and Welfare and the Department of Transportation’s Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

While at DMV, he served as the administrator since 2017 and played a key role in the modernization process. Bartz credited both Gonzalez’s understanding of the business and how technology could help meet the needs of Idaho citizens for that project’s success.

“Managing large state initiatives like IT modernization is no small task,” Gonzalez said in a written statement. “I look forward to bringing my experience in state government efforts like this to the consolidation and modernization process, improving our cybersecurity and positioning ITS as a trusted partner with our customers.”

Editor's note: Clarification of Greg Zickau's role with ITS was added after publication.
