Laserfiche Adds Handwriting Capture to Cloud Platform

The company, a popular solution for process digitization among state and local governments, has expanded its capabilities for capturing and processing information written by hand on paper forms.

Software continues to make it easier for modern technology to work with pen-and-paper documents.

Laserfiche, a popular form digitization and content management solution among state and local governments, has added to its cloud platform the ability to automatically capture handwritten information off paper.

The company first offered that capability for invoices; a spokesperson confirmed that it’s now available for any structured or semi-structured document. That’s important for government agencies, which have been moving toward digital online services for years but still often rely on pen and paper.

“By leveraging both structured and unstructured data, customers will be able to develop more end-to-end solutions that will help them meet their own business priorities, such as being resilient to staff shortages or providing excellent services to their end users,” said Laserfiche Senior Product Manager Tessa Kohl in a press release.

The company has also recently added full-text search for audio and video files, giving government workers the ability to, for example, search more efficiently through video meeting recordings.

The ability to digitally capture handwritten information could serve as a bridge between modern and traditional ways of doing business. An agency might offer a form both digitally and via physical paper copy, so it must be able to process both — if it’s able to bring the paper version into its digital system, it might be able to realize many of the same efficiencies in that workflow that it does in a fully digital one.

On top of form services, Laserfiche offers content management and workflow automation technology to the public sector, finance, manufacture, health care and other verticals.
