(TNS) — Bartlesville Public Schools has issued an alert about an April 30 data breach in which names and Social Security numbers were compromised.

The district said it retained the services of cybersecurity investigators who determined on Aug. 4 that “files were removed from the network by an unauthorized third-party actor.”

Individuals whose personal information may have been accessed by the hacker were alerted Tuesday, according to a news release from Bartlesville Public Schools. The district states the alert was issued out of an abundance of caution while there is no indication of any fraud as a result of the data breach.

Those with questions or concerns about the data breach can call a dedicated toll-free line, 800-220-7020, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays.

Those whose Social Security numbers were accessed in the data breach have been offered complimentary credit monitoring, BPS said in the release.

“Bartlesville Public Schools understands the importance of safeguarding individual personal information,” the release states. “Bartlesville Public Schools remains fully committed to maintaining the privacy of personal information in our possession, and upon learning of the event, Bartlesville Public Schools took immediate action to protect the individual personal information it maintains ... and (is) taking measures to augment its existing cybersecurity.”
