According to a news release in March, families of K-12 students can use the new app to find 30-minute tutoring sessions and homework assistance from credentialed teachers for $20 per session, as well as from university graduate tutors for $12.50. The app pays each $15 and $9 respectively for their services.
Developers say the app promises to ensure student anonymity through the use of Apple Login. Participating tutors must complete facial recognition prior to sessions to make sure they are safe and credentialed.
The app aims to provide flexibility for users during distance learning by allowing them to connect with one another according to their schedules. Students can also record and store sessions in a digital library for future reference.
While online tutoring has been around for years, tutoring apps have continued to gain traction with the advancement and popularity of mobile phones and the proliferation of e-learning options. Services like Chegg, Skooli and Varsity Tutors have tens or hundreds of thousands of users, and Wisdom Cafe proposes to be a lower-cost option for the growing market.
