Carladenise Edwards is serving as interim director of the Department of Information Technology for Miami-Dade County, Fla., according to the county’s website. The local government is home to more than 2.6 million Floridians.
Edwards, who joined Miami-Dade County as its chief administrative officer in 2023, with 30 years of varied professional experience across the education, health care, and state and federal sectors, takes the reins from longtime IT leader Margaret Brisbane, who was named CIO for Miami-Dade in 2021 after serving as interim director herself. County officials did not immediately respond to a request to confirm Brisbane’s departure.
Brisbane, who was recognized earlier this year as one of Government Technology’s Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers, has spearheaded a focus on digital inclusivity and innovation during her time at the helm, working through Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s Future Ready endeavor, to make sure residents have access to high-speed Internet.
“Technology is a powerful enabler,” she said earlier this year.
As the first woman to serve as CIO for Miami-Dade County, Brisbane has been a leader in efforts to expand digital equity, and to advance the use of technology to streamline access to government services via the No Wrong Door initiative. Under her leadership, IT helped to shape how the county uses AI to improve service delivery for the residents of South Florida.
