Kyle Guerrant will become acting director of the state’s Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB), according to a statement from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
DTMB provides IT, contracting, procurement and other services to state agencies. The department also oversees the state’s retirement systems.
Its current Director Michelle Lange is set to resign Jan. 31. According to a post on X from DTMB, she is joining the private sector.
Lange worked three years as department director, according to her LinkedIn profile, and has more than 15 years of state government experience.
Guerrant also has a deep background in Michigan state government; his time there spans 20 years, the state said in its news release.
He now works as deputy state budget director, with previous jobs including deputy superintendent of finance and operations at the Michigan Department of Education, and interim state school reform officer.
“Michigan has a deep bench of public servants who step up every day to get things done and make people’s lives better,” Whitmer said in the statement. “At DTMB, Kyle will ensure that state government operations continue smoothly so Michiganders can access the services they rely on.”
The governor’s press office did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the status of the state’s CIO position.
Laura Clark left that job in December to join Michigan State University (MSU) as its assistant CIO, according to a statement from the school. Whitmer appointed Eric Swanson as acting CIO late last year.
Clark had been state CIO since 2021 and “oversaw operations for the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget,” according to the MSU statement.
