“We are in the process of hiring a new CISO,” wrote a spokesperson from the state’s communications office in an email to Government Technology.
In a message to Government Technology, Greenberg wrote his departure was “not quite planned,” but declined to share details. He wrote that he’s currently looking for a new opportunity with an interest in the private sector or higher education.
According to the Wisconsin Strategic IT Plan for 2022 to 2024, the then-CISO established a K-12 education program to enhance cybersecurity education in Wisconsin. The cybersecurity initiative launched in the fall of 2022 at 15 schools.
During his time as CISO, he managed a campaign to tap into volunteer talent, the state’s Cyber Response Team (CRT). In March, the state announced the team had grown from 119 members in the last two years to more than 400 when its oversight was transferred to Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM), a division of the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs.
According to Greenberg’s LinkedIn account, before he became the Wisconsin CISO, he served as the chief information security officer for HII Technical Solutions, a corporate organization that provides large-scale solutions to the federal government. Greenberg also served as the CISO for the University of Arkansas from 2017 to 2019.
